Who doesn’t love a good loaf of Sourdough Bread? I have become more and more of a fan of making bread lately and this starter recipe/process is the reason why… It’s the easiest 5 day process I have ever had to go through and that is saying a lot…
Day 1: In the morning and once in the evening add 1/4 cup of 118 degree water & 1/4 cup of all purpose flour together in a clean container and whisk them together. Do not cover the container. (Let it sit out of the fridge uncovered for the whole starting starter process.)
Day 2 Repeat all of Step 1.
Day 3: Give your starter a break. Just let it sit and get sour, at this point you should be able to take a wiff and be able to start smelling the goodness.
Day 4: At this point it may of started getting a liquid at the top that is separate from the actual starter. Pour out that liquid. Then Add 1/4 cup of 118 degree water and 1/4 cup flour. Only do this step once a day for the remainder 3 Days.
Day 7 There’s that liquid again. Dump it! Now really take that wiff!! It’s gonna be sour so be prepared!!
Now TaDa! It’s ready to use!! Keep that lid around and put it on for storage in the fridge when your starter isn’t in use. I have one starter in the fridge at all times and then one jar out that I’m working with in the kitchen! Refill as necessary with the same process of 1/4 cup flour and 118 degree water and whisk. (When using the starter out of the fridge make sure it gets down to room temps turn before use. The starter with turn almost grayish after a long sit in the refrigerator and will need to be fed again once it comes out and is back to room temperature.
