I love making bread. It’s my favorite thing in the whole wide world! Sourdough bread, now that IS my favorite as of now! I make sour starter basically everyday so on every Monday I can make our 2 loaves of bread for the week. Sometimes I give one away, sometimes it sits in the freezer for a rainy day, (or a week I don’t feel like making bread).
To make Sourdough Starter… Sourdough Starter {EASY}
Ingredients: (This recipe makes 2 loaves of Sourdough Bread)
- 1 1/4 cup Warm Water 118 degrees
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Dry Active Yeast
- 2 cups Sourdough Starter
- 2 cups Bread Flour
- 2 cups All Purpose Flour (extra half a cup if needed)
- 1 teaspoon Salt
How to make it:
- Whisk the warm water and the yeast. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.
- Mix in Sourdough Starter. It will have bubbles at the surface still.
- Add the salt and the flour and mix with dough hook. (I use a standing kitchen aid mixture.) Mix on low for about 10 minutes. If needed this time s when you use the extra half cup of all purpose flour. I use it 1/4 cup at a time to make sure it looks right.
- Form dough into a sticky ball and cover with a towel and let it rise for 2 hours.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out onto a floured surface. Divide dough into 2 large balls and let sit covered to rest for 20 minutes.
- Grease 2 loaf pans and form the balls into logs to fit in the pans. Cover with a towel and let rise for 4 hours.
- Bake loaves for 10 minutes in a preheated 450 degree oven and then lower the oven temp to 400 and continue to bake for another 25-30 minutes.
- Pull out the loaves and let sit to cool for at least 30 minutes so you an get the most use out of the bread. I use my sourdough as sandwich bread so I slice up the whole loaf and but it in the a freezer Ziploc bag for easy storage.
Give it a try and fall in love!
