Sourdough Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

In our house pizza is kind of a staple. The fact that I can have dough started in the afternoon and ready in time for dinner and can make a super easy salad to go along side of it… it works out nicely.

Oh and the lack of dishes because salad is ate from the mixing bowl and the pizza is eaten from the cutting board.

And I mean who doesn’t love pizza?!

And homemade pizza? From scratch? It just brings joy to my heart. There’s nothing better than a random pizza night in my opinion…

The smell of the whole wheat and sourdough starter rising… 🤤

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Sourdough Starter
  • 1/3 cup Warm Water
  • 1 tsp Instant Dry Yeast
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 2 TBSP Olive Oil plus extra for greasing
  • 2/3 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 tsp Salt

Directions (Makes 1 Large pizza dough):

  1. First, combine warm water, instant yeast and sugar in the bowl of your mixer, let proof for 5 minutes.
  2. Once proofed mix in sourdough starter.
  3. Slowly incorporate all purpose flour, olive oil and salt. Then mix in the whole wheat flour.
  4. Grease medium sized bowl and form the dough into a ball.
  5. Cover the bowl and leave in a warm area until dough has doubled or 2 hours.
  6. Once doubled, punch down dough and lightly roll and shape out on a floured surface to desired crust size.
  7. To make a pizza, preheat oven to 475 degrees, place shaped dough onto a pizza pan, top your pizza with your choices, and cook for 10-15 minutes.
I made 2 flatbreads instead of 1 large pizza. But I think I got the heart ❤️ one looking pretty nicely!

I hope this recipe finds a place for you in your home! If it does make sure you let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
